Call for volunteers for Women in Science ‘edit-a-thon’

The University is looking for students and staff to get involved in a Medical Research Council (MRC) ‘edit-a-thon’ where volunteer ‘editors’ work on Wikipedia to improve access to information about women scientists.

Taking place on 13 May in the University of Liverpool Cancer Research Centre, the event is one of several organised around the country for women in science and complements the Athena Swan programme of initiatives.

The ‘edit-a-thon’ focuses on creating or improving the Wikipedia pages of important female scientists. The event is supported by Wikimedia, who provide volunteers to train the editors and help run the session.

In addition to the editing workshop, the event also incorporates a panel discussion with Dame Julia Higgins as key note speaker, and the panel comprising Provost Professor Ian Greer, Professor Tara Shears, Professor Sue Wray and two of the research fellows on the MRC Scheme, Dr Lauren Walker and Dr Sarah Skeoch.

Both events are also open to the public.

If you are interested in taking part, further information and details of how to register are available here . Alternatively, you can contact Angela Foxcroft for more information.
