Students from the University’s Physics Outreach Team will be exploring the interactions of particles, heat transfers and thermal physics at the Victoria Gallery & Museum’s (VG&M) Science is Cool! study day on June 12.
Funded by the University Museums Group, this event forms part of Universities Week which was established in 2010. Universities across the UK are inviting everyone to be inspired, get involved and discover the work universities are doing to improve everyday lives.
At the VG&M, female pupils from St. John Bosco College and Bellerive College will experience self-inflating balloons, crumbling bouquets of flowers and an explosive final experiment – with the aim of engaging them in physics.
A visit to the VG&M’s newest museum exhibition ‘A World a Particle’ is also included – an engaging exhibition exploring the fascinating world of particle physics. Pupils will don their 3D specs to enjoy a whirlwind tour of CERN, see a giant atom and hunt the Higgs boson.
Universities Week 2014 is being run by Universities UK with Research Councils UK, the Higher Education Funding Council for England and the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement.
