Liverpool highly rated in Stonewall university guide

Stonewall

The University of Liverpool has been highly rated in the Stonewall University Guide for lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) students.

The annual guide is designed to help prospective students choose a university which provides help and a warm welcome, based on a ten point checklist. In the 2015 Guide the University has achieved nine out of the ten categories on the list – up from eight in 2014.

In the entry for the University, Liverpool is particularly commended for having “a very active LGBT Society which is committed to campaigning for the rights, freedoms and safety of LGBT students on campus.”

Liverpool is one of only four universities in the North West and one of only six in the Russell Group of leading UK universities to achieve nine or ten ‘ticks’ on the checklist. In the separate Stonewall Top 100 Employers list, Liverpool is ranked as 57th in the country across all business sectors as a place to work.

Professor Kelvin Everest, the University’s Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Student Experience said: “Liverpool is famous for being a welcoming and diverse city and we’re proud that our university reflects this. LGBT students are an important part of the University community, so we’re very pleased that our efforts to continually improve the way in which we support them are reflected in the Stonewall guide.”
