Did you know that excess drinking and an unhealthy diet can lead to permanent liver damage, even in young people?
In the 1970s, cirrhosis (scarring of the liver as a result of continuous, long-term liver damage) claimed about 1,200 lives a year in the UK. By 2010, that figure had increased to 5,000. Health professionals are particularly concerned with the steady increase of patients showing signs of liver damagein their 20s and 30s.
As part of the British Liver Trust’s national Liver Awareness Day, Student Health will be running ‘Love your Liver’ drop-in sessions* to offer advice and support on keeping your liver healthy.
