The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janet Beer, has launched an online questionnaire as the first stage of the University’s Strategic Review process.
Staff and students are being invited to participate in the 12 month process aimed at defining our Strategic Plan 2016-26. The survey is open until 25 March, and will be followed by group consultations across thematic areas, which will take place in April and May.
The VC said: “We can take it as a given that, as a University, we want to provide excellent teaching, research and top quality services. What we need to be clear about is what our approach should be to achieve these goals.
“I am very keen to ensure we consult widely and cannot emphasise enough that this is an opportunity for everybody to get involved – we very much need the views of all of those with a stake in the University’s success to contribute their views and help shape the emerging strategy.”
Initial discussions have resulted in five broad themes: the University as a Value Driven and Ethical Organisation; as a Member Organisation; as a Partner; as a Global Citizen; and as an Innovator/Creator.
These will be developed to form the basis of Thematic Enquiries each led by a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and Professional Services Leadership Team (PLST). The Enquiries will involve evidence gathering as well as consultation with staff, students, alumni and external stakeholders.
The findings of the Enquiries will be presented to Senate in June and Council in July before a Green Paper is produced to prompt further discussions. The new strategic plan will be published in February 2016.
