The University features among the world’s top institutions in 20 of the 42 subjects listed in this year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject.

Veterinary Science is ranked sixth, up three places, out of 50 published institutions. There are top 100 rankings for Architecture/Built Environment and Medicine.
Engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing); Pharmacy/Pharmacology; Materials Science; Physics/Astronomy; Chemistry; Earth/Marine Sciences and Geography are all ranked 101-150. English; History; Modern Languages; Engineering (Civil); Biological Sciences; Environmental Sciences and Law rank 151-200.
Computer Science and Electrical/Electronic Engineering are ranked 201-250, and Mathematics is ranked 301-350.
Overall, the University has seen an additional subject included this year (Law re-enters having dropped out last year) and Linguistics is no longer listed and drops out of the Top 200.
Using data from reputational surveys supplied by academics and employers, and research metrics, the rankings highlight the top universities in the world for 42 individual subjects, grouped under five broad faculty areas: Arts and Humanities; Engineering and Technology; Life Sciences and Medicine; Natural Sciences; and Social Sciences & Management.
