University of Liverpool and John Moores go head-to-head in Sport Varsity

The University of Liverpool has won the annual Sport Varsity Cup in a head-to-head competition with Liverpool John Moores University.

The event, which took place on Wednesday, 13 April, saw more than 1,000 students from the University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores support and represent their respective teams in 19 different sports.

The day predominantly took place at Wyncote, the University of Liverpool’s outdoor sport facility, with male and female students competing in football, hockey, lacrosse and rugby union. There were also mens’ matches in American football and rugby league.

The University of Liverpool Sport and Fitness Centre played host to basketball, climbing, handball, netball, swimming, trampoline and volleyball; with the badminton action taking place at John Moores’ IM Marsh campus, the jitsu at JMU Dojo and the riding at Foxes Riding School in Ledsham.

Student golfers went to the Royal Liverpool Golf Club whilst ski and snow enthusiasts competed at the Rossendale Dry Ski Slope. Both the male and female tennis took place in Mossley Hill.

The event, which has been running for more than 20 years, is a chance for University societies and clubs to showcase student talent and go head-to-head in competitive sport. Affiliates, fellow students and staff are all invited to spectate and support their teams.
