Alumnus and ‘UK Life Science CEO of the Year’ to speak at University


As part of the Liverpool Doctoral College’s 2016 ‘Postgraduate Researcher Week’, alumnus Dr Eliot Forster (PhD. Neurophysiology, 1992) will be delivering a talk, open to all staff and students on Wednesday, 12 October.

Named ‘UK Life Science CEO of the Year’ at the 2016 Biotech and Money Assembly and Awards, Dr Forster will be speaking about his experience as a PhD student at the University of Liverpool, and demonstrating the ways in which his time in Liverpool has shaped and influenced his career. Dr Forster will also offer advice to students about pursuing a career in industry after the completion of postgraduate study.

With almost 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, Dr Forster has held senior positions at Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, US biotechnology company Solace Pharmaceuticals Inc. and in 2010 he became Chief Executive Officer of Creabilis.

Since January 2015, Dr Forster has served as Chief Executive Officer for Immunocore, a biotechnology company based in Oxfordshire, which researches and develops cancer treatments using T-cell receptors. He is also currently Chairman of the MedCity project, which aims to grow a world-leading life sciences cluster in the south-east of England.

Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Professor Bob Burgoyne commented: “I remember Eliot very well from when he was an active and energetic PhD student in the Department of Physiology and so I am very pleased to welcome him back to Liverpool”.

This is an open event which will take place on Wednesday, 12 October 2016, from 11am – 12pm as part of the ‘Postgraduate Researcher Week’, with a full schedule of events taking place from the 10 – 14 October 2016.
