A Liverpool Business Economics student has been granted the prestigious Scholarships for Excellence award to study for a semester in Hong Kong.
Yael Williamson, who has just completed the first year of her course at Liverpool, jetted out at the end of August to spend four months at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
She was congratulated on her award at the British Council of Hong Kong at a welcome reception laid on for all 16 scholarship recipients from British universities.
Yael, who is 19 and originally from Gibraltar, is the second student from the University of Liverpool to receive the award.
The Scholarships for Excellence, which are offered by the Government’s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and A Better Tomorrow for Hong Kong, gives exceptional students the funding to spend up to a year studying in Hong Kong as part of their degrees.
Students get to experience the vibrant East-West lifestyle of the former British Territory and now Special Administrative Region of China, and learn about a region of vital economic and cultural importance to the UK.
The scholarships have been running since 2006 to promote education links of mutual benefit between the UK and Hong Kong.
