First major exhibition by comic book artist John Higgins is coming to University of Liverpool’s Victoria Gallery & Museum

Judge Dredd

The first major retrospective of the work of Liverpool-born artist John Higgins, who found global success as a comic book artist and writer for 2000AD, DC and Marvel, is to be exhibited at the University of Liverpool’s Victoria Gallery & Museum.

`Beyond Dredd & Watchmen: the Art of John Higgins’ will provide a glimpse into the extraordinary imagination of John Higgins – an output which crosses the boundaries between comics, graphic novels, cinema, television, advertising and music.

The exhibition will feature Higgins’ original art displayed alongside examples of the work of the artists and science fiction classics that inspired him.

John Higgins said:  “I want the exhibition to show young artists and writers that anything is possible, that you can  have a career in comics and SF illustration, and that aliens, zombies and fantastic worlds can be made real, you just need imagination.

“To have an exhibition in my home town at the University’s Victoria Gallery & Museum is an honour beyond my wildest imaginings and if you want to see how far my wildest imaginings can go, come to the exhibition.”

`Beyond Dredd & Watchmen: the Art of John Higgins’ opens on Friday, 10 March 2017 and runs until October 2017 at the University of Liverpool’s Victoria Gallery & Museum.

Great creations the iconic Judge Dredd and many other artistic interpretations from the mind of John Higgins nice for him to exhibit in his Liverpool, vibrant paintings imaginative, colourful and full of character! All these from a modest man who happens to be a brilliant artist.

John is a very good artist, I remember his last exhibition of Judge Dredd in The Bohemia Gallery on Smithdown Road ten years ago, he has gotten better and deserves the show.
