Musical aims to challenge stigma of mental health

HOAX Our Right to Hope

A musical written by award-winning writer Ravi Thornton is coming to Liverpool next week.

Titled HOAX Our Right to Hope, the production follows Rob’s story as he falls in love and tries to cope with schizophrenia.

After the performance, you will receive Psychosis Blues – a graphic novel that follows the next 10 years of Rob’s life. Ticket holders will also gain access to the HOAX Our Right to Hope app, which further expands Rob’s true story and gives you the chance to take part in a study about mental health stigma.

The project aims to raise awareness around mental health, while challenging stigma and promoting empowerment to individuals who have lived experience of mental health difficulties.

Speaking about the project, writer Ravi Thornton said: “‘Developing such a pioneering app, that dovetails mental health research into Rob’s personal journey without ever reducing him to a case study, has been a journey in itself. We’re incredibly proud of what we have achieved.”

HOAX will be performed in Liverpool at Brigadier Philip Toosey Barracks and you can buy tickets online via the HOAX website.
