The Guild is set to feature on this Sunday’s episode of Countryfile, which is exploring the inventive ways Britain’s urban spaces are connecting with nature.
The programme will consider the future of farming in unexpected places and will look at the Aquaponics installation that is situated on the roof of our Reilly Building. The installation shows how it is possible to grow food on an urban rooftop without any soil.
The aquaponics installation is part of the Farm Urban project – a social enterprise that aims to change how we do science and how we farm food. The enterprise develops and tests the most efficient ways to grow food in urban environments, focussing primarily on aquaponics.
Speaking about the programme, David Wheatley, the Green Guild Project Manager, said: “We had a great time filming the segment for Countryfile and hope that Farm Urban’s mission and sustainable food message reaches more people as a result of the show.”
