Two teams from our undergraduate Accounting and Finance course took part in the competition, which also involved competitors from other universities.
During the competition, students had to pitch to win a contract for the internal audit services of Sheridan AV – a medium sized company looking to list on the London Alternative Investment Market. Students also took part in a group exercise where they developed their presentation, teamwork and networking skills.
Chloe Mitchell, one of the students who took part in the competition, said: “We all had a great time – it was really nice to get to know people that I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to otherwise and it was great practice to research and speak in front of people.”
RSM, an International Professional Services firm, judged the competition.
Helen Scott, Director of Studies for the BA Accounting and Finance programme, commented: “This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to meet students from other universities and to apply some of the things they have been learning in lectures. I was really proud of our students; they presented in front of senior professionals from RSM and did a brilliant job. They all demonstrated excellent communication skills, business understanding and commercial awareness.”
