Update: Carnatic Student Village beyond June 2019

Carnatic Halls

A number of years ago the University gave a commitment that our Carnatic Student Village site would continue to operate until at least June 2019.

That commitment remains, but the University has taken the decision to close Carnatic Student Village after June 2019 as part of a long-term residential strategy.

Work on our strategy began in 2010, which saw the opening of Vine Court in 2012, Crown Place in 2014, and most recently our Greenbank Student Village, which opened last year. The last stage of the strategy will be completed in September 2019 with the opening of the final phase of accommodation at Greenbank, and will mean we have some 4,400 high-quality accommodation spaces to offer students.

Current students living at Carnatic Student Village will not be affected by this work, nor will the update affect students who are planning to live in Carnatic Student Village during the next academic year.

Lee Rawlinson, Head of Accommodation, commented on the update, saying: “Carnatic has welcomed thousands of students to the University over the years and will no doubt hold special memories for many.

“Although we know that, on the whole, students enjoy their experience at Carnatic Student Village, increasingly we find that prospective students have a preference for other types of university accommodation.”
