First students to take part in ‘Year in China’ programme among 2018 graduates

This week 25 students are graduating after completing their degree with a Year in China. Since its establishment in 2016, 65 students have taken part in the Year in China programme and benefited from the University’s joint venture with Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU).

The Year in China is the University of Liverpool’s flagship study abroad programme that allows undergraduate students from a wide range of departments the opportunity to spend one academic year at XJTLU.

Gethin, graduating in Sociology & Social Policy with a Year in China, said: “I’d heard that when you are placed somewhere in a different environment by yourself you discover who you really are. Who I discovered was someone that was more capable and confident than I previously thought.”

A further 90 students are set to take part in the programme this academic year, following XJTLU’s BA China Studies degree classes. Students take a China studies module (choosing from a range of modules related to their degree programme in Liverpool such as Chinese history, politics or culture) and Chinese language modules.

This academic year 250 students took part in Study Abroad programmes that help students to become global citizens with a wide-range of employability skills and enable them to succeed in the international and inter-cultural employment market after graduation.

Semester Abroad, Year at @ XJLTU and Year in China Applications open 30 October 2018 and the deadline is 19 February 2019.
