5 ways you can celebrate Liverpool Pride 2018

Liverpool Pride is taking place this weekend (28 – 29 July 2018) and we wanted to share five ways you can get involved in this year’s celebration.

The theme for this year’s Festival is #AllTogetherNow. The Festival has taken place annually since 2010 in memory of Michael Causer and is organised by the volunteer-led charity, Liverpool Pride.

Liverpool Pride March: Saturday, 28 July – 11am-1pm

This year’s march begins at 12pm from St George’s Plateau and ends on Tithebarn Street. People will be gathering from 11am and speakers will be on hand to rally marchers. Students, staff and friends are welcome to join our group. You can register for the Liverpool Pride March via Eventbrite.

Come Out of the Shadows: 19 July – Thursday, 2 August 2018

For the past three years, iconic buildings around the city (including the Liver birds!) have been lit up in rainbow colours to show support for the LGBT+ community and to raise awareness about hate crime across the region.  The display promotes unity and acceptance, which underpins this year’s Liverpool Pride theme of #AllTogetherNow.

Sophie Ellis Bextor, Courtney Act and the cast of Kinky Boots: Saturday, 28 July

On Saturday there are three stages showcasing a diverse line-up of singers and performers. Sophie Ellis Bextor will be performing on the Barclays Stage, as will the recent winner of Celebrity Big Brother, Courtney Act. Over on the Manchester stage you can enjoy a packed cabaret programme.

Dance, music and food at the Bluecoat: Sunday, 29 July 11:30am-5pm

Head to the Bluecoat on Sunday for a family-friendly ‘Funday Sundae’ event. There will be music, stalls, a BBQ and lots of free creative activities to enjoy.

Divine Divas film showing: Monday, 30 July – 7:30pm

Output Gallery will be showing Divine Divas. The film portrays eight Brazilian transvestite performers and drag artists of the 1960s who revolutionised the sexual behaviour and conservatism of the time.
