9 key dates for your diary

The new term is almost upon us and before you start to get too booked up, we thought it was the perfect time to start adding these nine great events to your diary. #HelloLivUni

To keep up-to-date with all of the events that are taking place throughout the year, be sure to take a look at the University Events page, the Guild’s Event page and your School’s webpages.

1, Empty Spaces Cinema – September and beyond

Empty Spaces is a not-for-profit community project that creates cinema spaces in disused and unusual buildings in Merseyside. The organisation run regular screenings throughout the year. The next film they’re showing is Thelma and Louise.

When: Sunday, 16 September

2. Welcome Fair – Thursday, 20 September and Friday, 21 September

From baking to pro wrestling and upcycling to photography,  no matter what your interest the Guild has a society or volunteering opportunity for you.

The Welcome Fair, which is taking place during Welcome Week, is the place where you can find out about the groups you can get involved with while you study with us. You can also pick up lots of freebies, discounts and some free Domino’s pizza at the Fair too.

Our Sport Welcome Fair is also taking place at the same time in the Sports and Fitness Centre.

When: Thursday, 20 September and Friday, 21 September: 10am – 4pm

3. The Lovely Bones – September/October

If you’ve read Alice Sebold’s novel The Lovely Bones – or seen the film – you’ll know that this stage premiere is set to be a gripping performance.

When: Tuesday, 25 September to Saturday, 6 October
Where: Everyman Theatre
What: Performance of The Lovely Bones

4. The Giants – October

Way back in 2012, The Giants came to Liverpool and impressed the city with their incredible performance. The Giants are now coming back to the city in October for the final act of their epic trilogy. The four-day spectacular will focus on the theme of Liverpool’s Dream and will have nods to the city’s cultural renaissance.

When: Thursday, 4 October until Sunday, 7 October

5. Study Abroad Fair – Tuesday, 30 October

Interestingly, students who take part in Study Abroad earn higher than average salaries and are more likely to graduate with a 2:1 or First Class degree than students who don’t. So, as well as getting to study in somewhere like America, Australia or South Korea, if you take part in Study Abroad you could also improve your career prospects. 6. Liverpool Literary Festival – October

This October join us at the Liverpool Literary Festival for workshops, readings and lively discussions. The Festival, which is sponosred by the Bruntwood Group, has attracted big name authors like Val McDermid – the Queen of Crime –  and 2018 Man Booker Prize nominee Sally Rooney.

When: Friday, 19 October – Sunday, 21  October

7. Careers Fair – October

Meet employers and find out more about your career options at our upcoming Careers Fairs. We have two Fairs in October. The first focuses on business, finance and law. The second fair focuses on science engineering and technology. Even if you’re not studying these subjects or want to go into careers within these areas, we recommend you go along to the Fairs because there will be opportunities for students from all disciplines who are looking for internships, placements and graduate jobs.

8. Trainer Festival – November

If rare, vintage or dead stock trainers are your thing, you’ll love Laces Out –  a hugely popular trainer festival. This year there are more independent traders and collectors than ever before. You can also enjoy a panel of special guests and DJs.

9. Watch Charles Dickens’ great-great-grandson perform A Christmas Carol – December

Christmas may feel like a long way off (it’s actually 102 days away), but tickets to this A Christmas Carol performance are selling fast. And we can see why. Gerald Dickens, Charles Dickens’ great-great-grandson, will be performing the Christmas classic on the exact same stage the renowned author stood on to deliver his famous “penny readings”.
